The first quarter of XYZ’s fiscal year was loaded with surprises. May was up, June was down and July was down. The sudden departure of Bob Jones caused us a bit of a challenge and we are thankful to Barney for his efforts until a permanent replacement is found.
It is my pleasure to announce that we have found a replacement for Bob and Sales is introducing the new “EZ” widget, which is launching in October. The launch of this new device extends our product line and firms up contracts with two companies who have committed to 10,000 widgets per year. These new contracts will bring in an additional $5 million dollars annually.
To put this in perspective, we currently sell 5,000 widgets per year, or $3 million in annual revenue.
Our small business partners have struggled during recent financial uncertainties. These larger business partnerships will require us to produce double the widgets that we currently produce but will provide a stronger foothold in the market. To support this, we are contracting an office infrastructure in the United States, providing an extension of best practices used in our office in London.
With your help, next quarter results will be significant.

I like the fact that you included some information about the changes to your organization. Recently my company has made a lot of personel moves that were surprising and in some cases viewed as negative to the firm, especially because they were viewed as being done in secret(mostly becasue they were not communicated).
ReplyDeleteGood tone overall, I especially like the beginning where you mentioned Bob leaving the company. I think that made the message feel genuine. In a real message I can see that it will keep employees engaged with the company's results.
ReplyDeleteNice personal message with a good focus on explaining what is happening within the organization. I especially liked your sentence, "To put this in perspective, we currently sell 5,000 widgets per year, or $3 million in annual revenue." This is a great way to make the numbers "real" for your audience - a $5 million increase compared to current sales totaling $3 million. Wow! That really is a big improvement. As we read, this is a more effective method for communicating your message to the employees to make it "stick." Nice work Paige.
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the part, "To put this in perspective..." You made the article something anyone in the company could read, even if they weren't up on their company finances. That made your article special because it transcended through the worker levels.
ReplyDeleteAs others have already pointed out, I too like the fact that you have simplified the message so that no matter what level the message is being heard at it can be understood. The message remains simple and concrete. Perhaps maybe a little elaboration on why Bob Jones left. To me as an outsider it caused a bit of uneasiness and may have hinted to turmoil within the organization. Certainly the departure could have been for family or health reasons but we don’t know so it leaves us to wonder.
ReplyDeleteOverall I like the briefing and it is effective.
